10 Reasons Why You Might Want a good Handyman

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

If everything you touch seems to break, stop working, make funny noises, or start smoking – you may want a local handyman to come check things out.  At least for your own safety if nothing else!  Many of us have no talent when it comes to using tools, and even worse, there are those of us with huge fully equipped tool boxes that are covered with dust and spider webs because we are just plain too lazy to do anything that needs to be done!

If you fall into any of those categories, you might want a good handyman:

  1. If the smoke alarm keeps going off even without the batteries.
  2. Your front stairs are so rickety even your dog won’t use them.
  3. You haven’t slept in weeks because your shower won’t stop dripping and dripping and dripping.
  4. Nothing in your kitchen works except the microwave, and your wife just invited 30 people for a dinner party.
  5. Your windows don’t close all the way and your heat is escaping and the rain and snow is finding their way in – down your walls and onto your floors.
  6. Your downstairs bathroom has turned into a storage room because there’s no other use for it – the toilet hasn’t worked in a year and the faucet leaked so badly you took it out yourself.
  7. All the clothing racks in all your closets have collapsed from the weight of the clothes, and now your clothes are all over the floor.  Your cat now uses your half of the closet floor for her bed and refuses to give it back.
  8. There is no room in the garage for the cars.  You promised to put up some storage shelves when you moved in years ago and it never happened.  The garage door and the kitchen access doors are now bulging under the weight of excess junk.  So now you not only need shelves, you need new doors put up as well.
  9. You and your buddies started to build a deck a few years ago but never finished.  The dog, the cat, your wife and your mother in law have all fallen off because the side rails were never installed.  You are smart enough to never go out there, but you know in your heart you need to get the project finished before you get divorced or sued.
  10. And last but not least, you might want a handyman to help you pack and move after your wife does in fact fall off the unfinished deck once again because you never called a handyman when you should have.

Right Handyman

Good Handyman You have a ton of jobs to do around the house and just can’t find the time to do it. Also some to these jobs are too technical or messy and you have been putting them off for a long time. You at last decide to call a handyman to get the jobs done efficiently and quickly. You are now confronted with the task of making a choice from the list of so many available in your area and you are wondering how to find the right handyman.

Although you have access to a long list of handyman to choose from the internet or the phone book, the task becomes more difficult as you do not know where to begin. To make the task of finding the right handyman simpler, you can follow certain steps. First of all, make a list of the things that need to be done in your house. Treat the list like a project to be accomplished in a certain time frame and in a certain budget. As you make the project you will come to know the different skill sets you will be requiring from your handyman. You may be having a problem with the plumbing, or need a cabinet built, or could be something wrong with the wiring, or even a combination of such things. In such a case you will need a handyman or a team who is proficient in carpentry, electrical and plumbing. If your project involves only one skill you can look for a handyman who is known to be good in that particular skill.

Handyman ServicesTo find the good handyman you can go online and look at the different services which are listed for your area. If the handyman has been operating in your area for some time, he should be able to provide you with a list of customers for whom he has worked before, and you can check with them whether they were satisfied with his work. There is nothing better than to get a handyman who has a long list of satisfied customers.

Depending on your location you need to check whether your handyman needs to have a license to operate in that area. A handyman who has a license is always better, as you can feel more secure hiring the person and you also know that he has been in this business for some time. Also find out whether the handyman has an insurance policy for general liability, as this will cover damages in your house as a result of the work executed by the handyman.

To make the task of finding the right handyman even simpler, there is a website where you can post your project, and the different handyman in your area will be able to bid on it. You can then check out these handymen as per the guidelines given above and award the project to the right candidate
