An Unplanned Plumbing Adventure: Into the World of Plumbing Repair

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

Plumbing repair can be nasty work. When the house you’ve lived in for over fifteen years suddenly becomes a swamp while you’re out on vacation, you know you’re in for an expensive, drawn-out ordeal.

After a blissful week-and-a-half in Denver, filled with skiing, outdoor Jacuzzis and warm fires, my family returned to Atlanta only to find the plumbing repair nightmare we couldn’t have imagined. Our basement was under two feet of water and rising by the second—our new carpeting ruined, as well as all the belongings we’d been keeping down there. Fortunately this happened before the second phase of our basement renovation, but the damage had already set us back well over a thousand dollars just in the ruining of our possessions.

Before the cleanup could begin, it was time to hire a plumber- a good plumber to do a little plumbing repair. He would either to fix the problem or at least rig something up to stop the water flow for the cleanup process. We found the culprit pipe, and before any plumbing repair began we were able to simply turn off the main water to the house—we had some wonderful neighbors who were more than willing to donate water to us during these three days—and called in some flood recovery experts to drain out all the water.

We didn’t think that damp, moldy smell would ever go away. We wanted to blast the entire basement with bleach, or do something to make that foul odor disappear. Unfortunately, that would have to wait.

Our water was turned off, and it was time to call in a master plumber for the plumbing repair to fix our pipes so that we could return to business as usual.

Can We Fix It?

Not only did we need the problem remedied, but it was also a good time to look over our system to see if there were any problems that should be corrected in order to keep this from happening again. Sure it wouldn’t be a cheap proposition, but it was important to us that we be willing to spend a little extra money on a good licensed plumber now in order to avoid any future disasters.

With our plumbing repair about to begin, we had a lot of things to learn, and a lot of homework to do.

The story of our little quest for the perfect master plumber and great plumbing repair is to be continued…

Want a Plumber? Pick the Right One

Tagged Under : , , , , ,

Want a plumber who knows what he’s doing? Don’t hire the guy who did our home remodeling. Want a plumber who does the job right the first time and stays under budget? Ask for the local plumber who did our home addition. Many people who want a plumber have little experience with the intricacies of the master plumber searching process, and that’s why I’m here to help you with a few tips on how to make the process a little more successful.

It’s pretty common knowledge that when you want a plumber, you need a plumber who is a bonded, insured, and licensed plumber. You’d be surprised just how many freelancers are out there, or commercial plumber who seem experienced but have recently left (or worse, been fired from) a major company and have no insurance of their own. A good plumber will always have his credentials on hand, ready for you to have a look and make sure that he’s legitimate.

When you’re planning and negotiating the plumbing service, there’s no need to let on that you may never have hired a licensed plumber for a major task before. If you’ve done plenty of homework and read plenty of trustworthy online articles, there’s a good chance you already know more about the process than many individuals who’ve been through the rigmarole a few times already.

Questions are Key When you want a Plumber

So if you want a plumber to come to your site or home and give an estimate, any local plumber should be willing to do so. Unless he’s booked and overflowing with work, there’s no reason why he wouldn’t spare a few minutes and drive a bit out of his way in order to present his plumber service plan and give you a price quote before you call him out to work.

Remember though, if you have a major project you’ll also want a plumber who works well alongside other contractors. Some plumbers seem to know plumbing alone, and they’ll do all the plumbing repairs you need when working solo, but they have little experience with home remodeling projects and the dance one must do in order to coordinate projects alongside changing electrical and structural needs.

There’s plenty more to be said about the things you can do to make sure you’re working with a reputable master plumber, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The first and best thing you can do is ask around—most of us have neighbors or nearby friends who’ve had to spruce up their homes with projects involving plumbing work, so get a good reference and take out the guesswork out of picking the right plumber.

Plumber work – know about the general plumbing

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

The plumbing system in your home should undergo routine checks and need maintenance. Plumber work provides information on how to clean different plumbing fixtures, clear heavy blockage, repair leaky faucets, install new faucets, and how to make sure your drinking water is clean and safe to drink

A plumber work overspreads in the following applications:

* ordinary minor repairs, which means repair, replacement, or maintenance of existing accessible fixtures, parts, and appliances and their related water and drain attachments.

* Replace water heaters and underground piping, alter piping inside a wall or ceiling, or beneath a floor, and for plumbing in all new installations.
* Emergency repair, alteration, or replacement of freeze-damaged or leaking concealed piping
* Remodel or adding – This includes installation of building sewers, water service, and exterior rain drains.

Kitchen Plumbing

If we come to kitchen’s work, they are a plumber’s paradise. Not only do you have hot and cold running water, but also you have garbage disposals, icemakers, instant hot water, dish washers, refrigerators, and sometimes even a water treatment system. In fact, if you really stop to think about it, you probably have more pipes running in and out of this one room than the rest of your home combined. A kitchen plumbing renovation can be very complicated process, with much designing and planning necessary.

Clearing Heavy Blockage in the Main Drain

A major block may be caused by large items failing into the drains, or tree roots breaking into the drain system. For any of the major types of clogs in the main system a heavy duty sewer snake should be used. The two types of large snakes are a hand operated or electrical powered snake. These items can be rented or purchased. This often is a job for a plumber. You do not want to damage the line running out of the house.

Unclog Bathroom Sinks and pipes

Bathroom sinks get clogged quite often. Usually, it is due to hair or other grime that clogs the pipe. Bathroom sinks are easy to unclog with a few simple steps. A cleanout is a component in plumbing that allows the plumber or someone accessing pipes to clear out any kind of blockage of debris which has accumulated in certain parts of the system.

Plumber Service

Tagged Under : , , , , ,

Sometimes a person is just in honest need of a good plumber service.  Don’t be embarrassed, it happens to everyone, after all but did you know that a plumber service isn’t just for weird leaks and the like?  They also perform routine checks of a person’s septic tank for a fee.  There are many reasons why your licensed plumber should always be on speed dial, this is simply one of them.

A plumber service is generally run by a licensed plumber or a master plumber.  It is usually fairly easy to find plumber services in an area.  In fact, a person would have more than a few plumber services to look at when deciding on which one would work for them.

A plumber service provides many different types of maintenance work including the installation and repair of pipes, fittings and fixtures.  An emergency plumber can also provide service to other plumbing equipment that is used for water distribution, waste water disposal and venting in various areas such as residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings.

Those that go into a plumber service usually have to do over five years of schooling and other outside work before they are allowed to apply to take the test to become a licensed plumber.  Surprisingly, despite this difficult task, it is quite easy to find a plumber.  Most often a plumber service will be a small, family owned business instead of one of the larger ones as the smaller businesses often outnumber the larger ones.

In fact, most plumbers also offer septic tank pumping services as well as septic tank replacement services.  However, not every plumber service does this and they would specify their specialties in their ads and if they do not, questions are generally welcome.  Often times, it is required by state and/or county law that a septic tank is changed or cleaned every certain number of years, with that number varying from place to place.

If you are looking to find a plumber service in your area, it is best to ask around.  Generally a neighbor or family member or the like would not hesitate to give you his or her recommendation on a good plumber service.  It is important to listen to recommendations as they can help you narrow down the many plumber services offered by licensed plumbers in your area, which otherwise would be somewhat difficult to both find a plumber and narrow down one that you liked.

Plumber services may not make up the largest part of the economy nor may they be highly looked upon but neither changes the fact that society needs a good number of licensed plumber and plenty of good plumber service.

Getting the Job Done: Commercial Plumber

Tagged Under : , , , , , , ,

Having found a decent commercial plumber to fix up the issues at our office, the day had come to stand back and let him work his master plumber magic. We were especially pleased with this candidate, not just because of his confident analysis of our issues, and realistic estimates and time frames, but also because he was willing to come in and work after hours so that the noise and disruptions in service would not impede our workflow.

So if you’re a commercial plumber reading this, take note- it wasn’t just craftsmanship or word-of-mouth, or a nice decal on the local plumber’s van that won him the contract, it was simply the willingness to work non-traditional hours to get the job done. We knew, given his dedication and willingness to work on our parameters that we were dealing with a commercial plumber who really cares about the work he does.

Once the building was empty after the business day, the work began. He arrived at 5:30pm and set to work on the plumbing repairs and installations that we had requested in our contract.

As time passed, day by day, we saw the improvements mount up. Every once in awhile, over the course of the two week project, we would find little notes on sinks or toilets with special instructions not to use them. Other than that, things seemed to be going pretty smoothly.

A Job Well Done with Our Commercial Plumber

After two weeks of temporary outages and little notes, we walked in on Monday morning to see why we hired a local plumber for the plumbing repair and renovation. There were beautifully functioning toilets and sinks in our bathroom, as well as the water fountains and hand washing sinks we’d wanted installed ever since we moved in. There were still some cosmetic changes we wanted to make, but we would have those for another day- they had nothing to do with plumber work.

Our experience with this commercial plumber was very satisfying, and the work he did held up for as long as we owned the workspace. We kept his card around just in case, but we never needed it. But you can be sure that, any time some friends of ours needed advice on what commercial plumber to turn to, we would refer them to the local plumber that made our plumbing experience so great.
